The European Scrutiny Committee, on 21 May 2013, reported on a Draft Regulation which would merge the functions of Europol and the European Police College (CEPOL) within a single EU Agency for Law Enforcement Co-operation and Training, and change the arrangements for parliamentary scrutiny of the new Agency’s activities and budget. The questions the Committee members raised were described in the report of 26 June 2013, alongside the Minister for Security's response. The current report contains the text of the Minister's letter of 9 July 2013, in which he wrote to inform the Committee of the Government's recommended approach to UK participation in the draft Europol Regulation, adding that the information was being provided in advance of the opt-in debate — now rescheduled for 15 July 2013. |
