Brussels plans sweeping rules to complete single EU telecoms market

EurActiv reported that in July 2013 that the European Commission was drafting ambitious plans to scrap mobile telephone roaming charges and to seize greater control over the radio frequency spectrum before the current European Parliament mandate ended early in 2014. This proposal which was being finalised for adoption in September 2013 was likely to pitch the European Commission against national interests and the telecoms industry.
