Government wins final vote on abortion legislation

Lawmakers in the Republic of Ireland voted on the 11 July 2013 to legalise abortion under certain conditions for the first time.

Irish abortion laws had come under global scrutiny after a woman denied an abortion died in 2012 from pregnancy complications.

The Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act came into force on the 1 January 2014.
