On the 9 July 2013 Italy's highest court, the Court of Cassation, set 30 July 2013 as the date for hearing ex-PM Silvio Berlusconi's tax fraud appeal - a much earlier date than expected.

The early hearing could prevent the statute of limitations from expiring on one of the charges, analysts said. Articles examine the significance of this move.
