Iran ambassador calls for better EU relations

Iran's ambassador to the EU, Mahmoud Barimani, has said it should relax sanctions in order to grasp a new "opportunity" to mend ties.

The EU last year banned Iranian oil sales and blacklisted its banks to stop it building a nuclear weapon. It has also damned Iran over military aid to the Syrian regime and over human rights abuses at home.

It expects to restablish negotiations on the nuclear issue right after Hassan Rohani takes over as the new Iranian President.
