Italian ex-PM Berlusconi sentenced in Ruby sex case

Italy's former PM Silvio Berlusconi was sentenced to seven years in jail and banned from public office on the 24 June 2013 for having sex with an underage prostitute.

The Milan court ruling would not be effective until several appeals had been heard.

On the 18 July 2014 an Italian appeals court cleared Mr Berlusconi of having sex with an underage prostitute and abuse of power in a surprise ruling that would strengthen the former prime minister on the political scene.
