Reports of municipal elections in Italy on 9 June 2013 which were seen as a victory for the centre left Democratic party (PD) and Enrico Letta, the centre-left prime minister. His Democratic party won in all the 16 big towns and cities that went to the polls. A week later the Italian coalition government agreed on a budget-neutral decree intended to boost the recession-hit economy while putting off decisions on controversial tax cuts. Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta announced on the 15 June 2013 a package of measures to fund public works projects and cut red tape in a bid to pull the euro zone's third-largest economy out of recession while respecting European budget limits. |
