The European Commissioner for Region Policy, Johannes Hahn, attended on 14 June 2013 the inaugural opening of a bridge linking Bulgaria's region of Vidi and Romania's region of Calafat. The bridge was named 'New Europe Bridge', received €106 million in EU investment and became the second bridge along the extensive border between the two countries. It bridge started being built in 2007, but plans for its constructionhad started 15 years before. The EU Strategy for the Danube region pushed the project to completion. |
