Press Release: European Investment Bank and Kosovo sign Framework Agreement

On 7 June 2013 Mr Anton Rop, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), and Kosovo’s Finance Minister, Mr Besim Beqaj, signed a Framework Agreement governing future EIB activities in Kosovo, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Mr Hashim Thaçi, and the Head of the EU Office in Kosovo / EUSR, Mr Samuel Žbogar.

The Framework Agreement will allow the Bank to proceed with the financing of projects in Kosovo, particularly in the areas of the environment, transport, telecommunications and energy infrastructure, and provide technical assistance focused on the preparation and financing of priority projects which are important for the development of Kosovo.

The EIB’s involvement will also facilitate the co-financing of projects with other donors and EU grants and support the implementation of various instruments such as the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) and the Western Balkans Enterprise Development and Innovation Facility (WB EDIF).
