High Level conference: ‘Empowering local actors to prevent violent extremism’

A High Level conference was held on 29 January 2013 to discuss ways to sharpen the European Union's tools to prevent violent extremism. The discussion was based on the work carried out by experts and practitioners in the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN), launched in 2011.

The conference focused on the role of local actors in preventing violent extremism, the role of diasporas in the process of violent extremism and their engagement in its prevention, and on how to communicate on violent extremism, and counter-messaging via the internet.
