United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron threw down the gauntlet to France and Germany on the 6 January 2013, warning that he would block moves to closer eurozone integration unless Britain was allowed to repatriate some powers from the European Union. Mr Cameron said that it would be 'difficult but possible' to renegotiate a better membership deal for Britain when the EU began talks on a new treaty to deepen political and economic co-operation in the eurozone. EurActiv reported that Mr Cameron had said that he would 'look at arguments' to make it harder for nationals from EU countries to settle in Britain and claim social security benefits. |
