Brussels-based pro-transparency group Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) argued in a statement issued on the 14 December 2012 that if European Health Commissioner John Dalli had to resign because of undisclosed meetings with tobacco lobbyists, shouldn’t the same logic apply to high-level Commission officials in Barroso’s cabinet, at the Secretariat-General and other DGs who also had met tobacco lobbyists in 2012.
