Food costs stoke debate about EU biofuels targets

In summer 2012 criticism of the European Union biofuel industry arose because of the record-high prices of grain in the draught-stricken United States. There is a deep concern that the grain prices might cause a food crisis.

The European Commission is under pressure to forge a deal which is supposed to ensure that EU biofuels do not affect food production or the environment.
