EurActiv reported that EU ministers were unlikely to agree draft rules to let countries decide themselves whether to grow or ban genetically modified (GM) crops, despite efforts by Denmark's EU presidency to reach a compromise.

EU environment ministers met in Brussels on 9 March 2012 and voted on a Danish compromise designed to break a deadlock that has split governments since the draft rules were proposed in 2010.
