The General Affairs Council discussed, in public session in Brussels on the 27 January 2012, the main priorities and the budgetary framework including the overall amounts presented in the European Commission's proposals for the EU's multiannual financial framework (MFF) for the 2014-2020 period.

EUObserver reported the discussions were the first concrete discussions on the EU's next long term budget, a debate that threw up as many points of view as there were Member States.
