Government borrowing and debt: International comparisons

This note provides international comparisons of government borrowing and debt. Data are presented for overall borrowing and structural borrowing. Public debt figures are provided for both gross and net measures of debt.

The data are from two sources:

The IMF Fiscal Monitor Update, published in January 2012. This provides data for the United Kingdom, United States, Eurozone, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Canada. Data are published for borrowing, structural borrowing and gross debt but not net debt.

OECD Economic Outlook published in November 2011. This provides data on borrowing, structural borrowing and gross and net debt for around 30 advanced economies.
