Memo: Máire Geoghegan-Quinn welcomes Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for EU-funded researchers

The award of the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Jules A. Hoffman and Ralph M. Steinman, along with Bruce A. Beutler, has been welcomed by European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Máire Geoghegan-QuinnBoth Professors Hoffman and Steinman were aided in their work by funding from the European Union. Unfortunately, the news was accompanied by the sad announcement that Professor Steinman passed away on 30 September.
