A group of international experts have come together by a joint initiative by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to create a standardised international terminology with which to describe acquired resistance profiles in those bacteria often responsible for healthcare-associated infections and prone to multidrug resistance.

The definitions are published in the journal, 'Clinical Microbiology and Infection' and are openly accessible. Please click on the Source Url in order to access the definitions.
