Economic, social and territorial situation of the United Kingdom

This Note provides an overview of the United Kingdom's economic, political and administrative framework for EU Cohesion policy, as well as of its National Strategic Reference Framework for the period 2007-2013. It focuses in particular on the English regions of London and the South East. The paper gives also an insight into the United Kingdom's position on the future of Cohesion policy and the role it can play in this context. The Note has been prepared in the context of the Committee on Regional Development's delegation to the United Kingdom, 14-16 June 2011.
