Comparative study on the purpose, scope and procedures of impact assessments carried out in the Member States of the EU

This Study looks at the purpose, scope and procedures of impact assessments carried out in the Member States of the European Union. It aims to draw examples of best practice to feed into the discussion concerning Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) at EU level. The study examines the EU RIA system, as well as RIA systems in eight Member States: Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. It combines document review and interviews to analyse the context, scope, role in the policy cycle, methods, governance, and outcomes of RIA, as well as the theory and evolution of the RIA concept.
