Airlines’ duty to travellers faces curb

Airlines may no longer face open-ended obligations to feed and lodge stranded passengers after the European Commission acknowledged in April 2011 the industry’s complaints and said it would revise a key piece of legislation.

Siim Kallas, Europe’s transport commissioner, announced on the 11 April 2011 that he would examine ways to limit airlines’ responsibility to care for stranded travellers as part of a broader revision of passenger rights legislation.
