The talks between the European Parliament and the European Commission on the novel food issue, especially the food from clones and their offspring, failed after a nine hour meeting on 17 March 2011.

The Parliament is calling for the explicit ban of meat produced from cloned animals and their descendants, whereas EU ministers and the Commission back a ban on cloning for food production, but reject a ban on food from offspring.
