Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark’s Prime Minister, fired his immigration minister Birthe Rønn Hornbech on the 8 March 2011 after weeks of political disquiet over the illegal denial of passports to stateless Palestinians.

According to a report prepared by the minister, 36 Palestinians who were born in Denmark were refused citizenship in recent years in breach of two separate United Nations conventions.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said he had decided to set up an independent inquiry into the handling of stateless people by the immigration ministry.
