East and west have ‘divergent’ EU interests

2011 was supposed to be the year that central European once-communist countries showed they were equal to their western brethren by presiding over the European Union. Hungary and then Poland are to assume the Presidencies of the EU during 2011 and both have disagreements with older EU Member States from western Europe.
