Calisto Tanzi, former chief executive of Italy’s Parmalat dairy company, which collapsed in 2003 with €14bn of debts, was sentenced to 18 years in jail on the 9 December 2010 for his role in what at the time was Europe’s biggest corporate bankruptcy.
