The European Commission searches for the way forward for the EU's 2011 budget after the collapse of negotiations between the European Parliament and Council of the European Union in November 2010. The European Parliament would be holding to a firm, united position in the deadlock over the EU budget for 2011. This was confirmed in a plenary debate on the 23 November 2010 on the 2011 budget negotiations with Commission President Barroso, Belgian Presidency representative Melchior Wathelet and Budgets Commissioner Lewandowski. The European Commission adopted on the 26 November 2010 a new draft EU budget for 2011 after the failure of the conciliation procedure between the European Parliament and the Council on 15 November 2010. The new draft budget foresees €126.5 billion in payments (+ 2.9% on 2010). The President of the Commission Jose Manuel Barroso sent a letter to the Presidents of the European Parliament and of the Council on the political issues linked to the adoption of the 2011 budget. |
