Socialist candidates appeared set to capture the Attica region – home to almost half of Greece’s population – along with Athens city hall in the second round of municipal and regional elections.

But the governing Pasok socialist party faced a challenging task to keep control of a majority of the country’s 13 administrative regions in the run-off votes on the 14 November 2010.
