Slovakia’s new government came under fire from its eurozone partners, particularly Germany, on the 12 August 2010 after its parliament voted overwhelmingly to reject taking part in a European Union aid package for the troubled Greek economy.

The German government criticised the Slovak parliament’s decision in unusually harsh terms. The European Commission in Brussels also reacted angrily to the news.
