This document sets out the strategic priorities for all six ECDC disease-specific programmes from 2010 to 2013 based on a short description of the epidemiological background, the context in which ECDC works on that specific disease or disease group, and defined gaps that require action at the EU level.

The disease-specific programmes are as follows:

1. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and healthcare-associated infections (HAI);
2. Emerging and vectorborne diseases (EVD);
3. Food- and waterborne diseases and zoonoses (FWD);
4. Respiratory tract infections (influenza, legionella, and tuberculosis);
5. Sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and other blood borne viruses;
6. Vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs).
