In a new CEPS Policy Brief, CEPS Chairman H. Onno Ruding argues that financial reform is urgently needed in the EU not only to reduce the likelihood of another financial crisis in the coming years but also to reinforce the internal market. In his view, a primary financial as well as political goal should be to create a truly single market in Europe for financial services and institutions. The author is Chairman of CEPS, former Minister of Finance of The Netherlands, retired Vice Chairman of Citibank, New York and Member of the de Larosière-Committee on Financial Supervision in the EU. This paper was originally prepared for presentation at the 2010 Colloquium of the Centre for Financial Studies (CFS) of the University of Frankfurt, 19 May 2010.
