UEFA blocks Evian proposal

UEFA, the European football association, has vetoed French football team Evian Thonon Gailliard (Evian) plans to play some home matches just over the Swiss border in Geneva, to the annoyance of backers of the plan on both sides of the border. "The organisation of football on a national territorial basis constitutes a fundamental principle and a well-established characteristic of the sport," UEFA said.
