MEPs’ €13.4m staffing expansion approved

The European Parliament approved on the 25 February 2010 a €13.4m expansion of its staff. The Parliament’s decision, approved by a margin of 430 to 117, with 58 abstentions, will allow the institution and political groups to add 150 posts and increase MEPs’ budgets to hire assistants by €1,500 per month.

The proposal must still be approved by the European Commission, the European Union’s executive arm, which has the authority to amend budgets.
