Press Release: Mergers: Commission approves proposed acquisition of CIMPOR by CSN

The European Commission cleared on 15 February 2010 under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition – by way of public bid – of CIMPOR , a Portugal-based cement producer, by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional ("CSN") , a Brazilian integrated steel producer. After examining the operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
