Article reports that Denmark was facing questions January 2010 over how a suspected Islamic extremist with alleged ties to al-Qaeda was allowed into the country to mount a failed assassination attempt against a Danish cartoonist targeted for his depiction of the Prophet Mohammed.

In February 2011 the Somali-born man Mohamed Geele was given a nine-year jail term for attacking the Danish cartoonist. Judges said the attack was an act of terrorism.
