The breakaway republic of Abkhazia held presidential elections December 2009. And while Georgia has slammed the polls as fraudulent, analysts believe the outcome could have far-reaching consequences.

Sergei Bagapsh won a second five-year term as President electoral officials announced on the 13 December 2009.
