Summary:The EMEA's Committee for Medicine Products for Human Use (CHMP) decided in January 2009 that a thorough scientific discussion was necessary in order to establish the value and safe use of antimicrobial preservatives in eye drops for human use. An ad-hoc group of experts was established as a result and agreed on a number of conclusions as regards this matter. The conclusions were published by the EMEA on 8 December 2009.
