Press Release: Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union following the expulsion of diplomats by Fiji

The European Union regrets the announcement by Fiji's interim Government on 3 November 2009 on the expulsion from Fiji of Australia's High Commissioner and New
Zealand's Acting Head of Mission. This development signals a further deterioration of the relations of Fiji with the
international community, undermining progress towards re-engagement and dialogue. By isolating itself, Fiji puts at risk the concerted efforts to bring about the return of rule of law and democracy. The EU appeals to Fiji and all its partners to work together to engage in meaningful dialogue and thus prevent further negative developments.
