This report is published as part of a series of forward-looking sector studies on new skills and new jobs in the frame of the project 'Comprehensive Sectoral Analysis of
Emerging Competences and Economic Activities in the European Union'. It was commissioned under the European Community Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity - PROGRESS (2007-2013). This programme is managed by the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the European Commission.

The non-metallic materials sector covers a broad range of industries which are all involved in the processing of natural resources (for example, silica sand, clay, natural stone and rock) into marketable products.
