Press Release: Mergers: Commission clears Belgacom’s acquisition of BICS and BICS’ purchase of certain assets from MTN

The European Commission cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of sole control of BICS, a Belgian carrier of international telecommunications services, by Belgacom of Belgium. BICS which would, in turn, acquire the international carrier business of MTN of South Africa. After examining the operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
