On 30 September 2009 the European Commission provided a further €2 million in fast-track humanitarian aid to help victims of Typhoon Ketsana. The new decision, which comes on top of €2 million announced yesterday for the Philippines, is for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. A rapid response team from the Commission's humanitarian aid department (ECHO) is also being sent to Vietnam to assess needs in the stricken area. The most recent reports from Vietnam are that at least 347,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged with alarming information now also emerging from Cambodia. |
