Spanning the centre of continental Europe, the Alps play a crucial role in accumulating and supplying water to the continent. Drawing on the most recent knowledge of climate change impacts in the Alps and experiences across the region, this report analyses the risks that climate change presents to the region's water supply and quality, identifying needs, constraints, opportunities, policy levers and options for adaptation.

The report contains six case studies that illustrate regional adaptation to key water resource issues resulting from climate change and other causes such as increased water use. The case studies addressed
the Lavant valley and Vienna in Austria, the Valais in Switzerland, South Tyrol in Italy, the Savoy region
in France and River Soča in Slovenia and Italy.
