‘A New Grand Coalition Would Suit Merkel’

German Chancellor Angela Merkel seemed to be cruising to victory and a coalition with the business-friendly FDP. Now, in the light of heavy losses in three state elections on the 30 August 2009, her shaken CDU party is calling for her to campaign more agressively. Commentators still expect Merkel to be Chancellor after the September 2009 vote.
