Declaration by the Presidency on behalf of the European Union on the political situation in Honduras

On the 21 July 2009, the European Union reaffirmed its support to the President of Costa Rica, Oscar Arias, to facilitate a peaceful negotiated solution to the political crisis in Honduras.

The EU called on the parties in the talks sponsored by Costa Rica to do their outmost to reach a swift resolution to the crisis, as proposed by President Arias. The EU also urged all parties to refrain from any action that might result in increasing tension and violence.
