Call for quick end to UBS tax evasion case

Report of visit of Doris Leuthard, the Swiss economy minister, to the United States, July 2009, aimed at strengthening ties with the new American administration, in the light of tensions over banking secrecy and the forthcoming UBS hearing in Miami starting on the 13 July 2009.

On the 8 July 2009 the Swiss government waded into the legal battle between UBS and the US authorities by saying it would forbid the bank from handing over confidential client information if the Miami hearing required it.
