NGOs want medicines removed from EU industry policy

As the preparations are being made to shape the new College of Commissioners for the period 2009 - 2014, the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA), European Consumers Organisation (BEUC) and Association International de la Mutualité (AIM) called on the President of the European Commission and Member States to make health the main driver for pharmaceutical policy at EU level by giving the lead role in medicines to a health focussed directorate within the European Commission - and thus to remove it from the responsibility of DG Enterprise and Industry.
