At its plenary session on 10 June, 2009, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted a key opinion on a European Commission's proposal for a Directive aimed at re-starting the establishment of a common EU framework on nuclear safety. The EESC firmly believes that the proposed measures will significantly enhance public safety, as well as benefiting nuclear industry workers and the environment. The Committee called on the EU to play a proactive role by exporting its 'safety model' beyond its borders, as it does with the 'climate package'. |
