The 4th EU-Korea summit will take place in Seoul on Saturday 23 May. European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will represent the EU, alongside Czech President Vaclav Klaus, and hold discussions with President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea (South Korea). Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Catherine Ashton, European Commissioner for Trade, will also participate in the meeting. Summit leaders will review the progress which has been achieved in negotiations for an ambitious Free Trade Agreement and on updating the existing EU-Korea Framework Agreement. When these agreements are concluded, they will provide the basis for a substantial upgrading of the EU’s relations with an increasingly important Asian partner. |
