Doubt cast on Tories’ red tape stance

Red tape from Brussels accounted for only 0.1% of the regulatory costs imposed on business in 2007-08, according to new analysis produced for the British Chambers of Commerce, May 2009. This appears to undermine one of the central tenets of the Tories’ European elections campaign.

Article refers to a report published May 2009 by the British Chambers of Commerce called 'Worlds Apart: The EU and British Regulatory Systems'. This is the seventh annual report examining how the UK regulatory system works in theory and practice. It is also the fifth to review the comparable EU system.
