Press Release: Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the CFSP, today met Shirin Ebadi, Nobel Peace Prize in 2003

Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), today (3.3.2009) met Shirin Ebadi, lawyer and human rights defender, who in 2003 became the first Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Mr Solana expressed concern about the closure of Ms Ebadi's Defenders of Human Rights Centre in
Tehran last December. He reassured Ms Ebadi of the EU's full support to urge the Iranian authorities to authorise the re-opening of the Centre and to release the Centre's administrative assistant.
