Russia-Georgia pact on Caucasus violence

Russia and Georgia agreed on the 18 January 2009 a joint mechanism to investigate and resolve continuing violence in and around Georgia’s breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, in what mediators described as an important step towards lowering tension in the south Caucasus.
